AQA GCSE Media Studies is offered to students as an option choice at Key Stage 4. The course allows students to learn about the use of Media in today’s society. Students learn about every aspect of the Media through both practical and theoretical lessons and have the opportunity to make their own TV adverts, magazines and film trailers. The course in taught in the Mac Suite and ICT rooms. Students have the chance to learn a number of developing and editing techniques using the ICT equipment.
Option Choices at KS4
Students have the option to study the AQA GCSE Media Studies course. Students are required to:
Complete three controlled assignment units as the main focus of their coursework – 40% of final GCSE mark.
Assignment 1 – Students study Advertising. They have to research the different types of adverting then produce their own advert and TV advert.
Assignment 2 – Students study Film Posters and Trailers. They have to research how film posters and trailers are made and then produce their own film trailer and poster.
Assignment 3 – Students study Magazines. They have to research how magazines and made and then make their own magazine.
Complete a written Examination – 60% of final GCSE grade.
This written examination is on a set topic issued from the examination board.
