Students are encouraged to develop independent learning from early on in Year 7. We have a number of sports leaders in every year group who help to coach, mentor and support other students as well as help out refereeing and officiating in many different activities.
We encourage a ‘Sport for All’ ethos and ensure that every student is actively involved in every lesson, whether it be as a performer, coach or even an official.
We teach the following activities at KS3:
Students will take part in a wide and varied selection of activities throughout the course of the year.
The KS3 PE programme has been designed to fulfil the requirements of the new National Curriculum with the aim of:
Developing competence in a broad range of physical activities.
Being physically active for sustained periods of time.
Are engaged in competitive sports and activities
Lead Healthy Active Lives.
Invasion games will be assessed on student’s ability to replicate and perform key skills both in conditioned drills and within a game environment. They will also be assessed for their level of understanding in tactics and their knowledge of the rules. These activities include; Football, Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Basketball and Handball.
Individual based activities will be assessed on student’s ability to replicate and perform key skills and their ability to evaluate their own performance. These activities will include; Fitness, Gymnastics and Athletics.
Net / Wall activities will be assessed on student’s ability to replicate and perform key skills, show a sound understanding of tactics as well as having a good knowledge of the rules. These activities include; Badminton, Volleyball and Table Tennis.
Other areas taught include:
Striking and fielding which is comprised of Rounder’s, Softball and Cricket. OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities), problem solving, team building and orienteering.
